Lead Metallurgical Engineer

Industry Segment: Specialty Metals

We are seeking a Lead Metallurgical Engineer for our client in the Quad Cities area in Iowa.

This position serves to provide technical support to manufacturing, laboratories, and product lines.  This support includes quality systems, metallurgical practice determination, product and process development/improvement, customer technical service, product testing, inspection, and general area leadership.  This position provides high level technical knowledge and plant wide leadership for metallurgical understanding of critical processes or products.

Location: Quad Cities, IA

Responsibilities:

This position will support like technologies across the company and these core competencies:

Casting, Rolling, Heat Treatment, USI, Laboratory, Technology, Lubricant Technology, Heat Treated Plate Products, Heat Treated Sheet Products, Common Alloy Products, Quality Systems/Process Management, and Customer Field Support.

Additionally, the person in this position:

  • Leads technical and quality system activities within the designated manufacturing or product area.
  • Supports manufacturing process and product improvement initiatives utilizing the appropriate quality and business system tools.
  • Provides support in capability and compliance technical audits.
  • Provides Quality Assurance leadership.
  • Provide area technical leadership.
  • Ensures that quality systems in their area are performing correctly and reacts to exceptions, especially systems and processes impacting product integrity.
  • Helps Maintain Critical Processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or materials science.
  • This role requires knowledge of metallurgical processing, upstream manufacturing processes, and customer requirements.
  • 6+ years of metallurgical experience.
  • 10+ years manufacturing quality experience is preferred.
  • Broad understanding of finishing operations and interactions with product criteria for coil and sheet, upstream processing, surface criteria, metallurgy, and thermal processes.
  • Experience in industrial, aerospace, and automotive processes and/or products is preferred.
  • Experience in one or more areas of coil or sheet finish, rolling, extrusion, or forging.
  • Ability to lead multi-function teams for problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge in quality system standards in one or more of ISO9001, IATF16949, AS9100 is preferred.
  • Knowledge in industry standards for mechanical testing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.  Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
