Empty Car Lots Could Be Key Indicator for Manufacturers

Have you driven by an auto dealer recently?  Have you noticed the numbers of cars in those lots are dwindling?  If you are looking to buy a new car, I have some bad news.  The dealer’s lots are nearly empty.  I drove by a local dealer today and noticed something interesting. To make it look like they have more inventory, the dealership actually had the cars parked front to back instead of side by side. If you are looking to purchase, these low inventories might be bad news.  But it may bode well for manufacturing businesses moving forward.

When it Comes to Recruiting, You Can Lead a Horse to… Lumber?

A number of weeks ago, I called the CEO for a precision metal manufacturer.  I heard they were hiring for a Director of Manufacturing and we wanted to recruit the position. The CEO explained that, while they sometimes outsource recruiting, they had a lot of applicants for the position and didn’t need exclusive support.  I didn’t capture their business (you can’t win them all), but he invited me to contingently send any resumes I thought might match the position.  This conversation was actually typical for a lot of sales calls.
